Using this to change my strategy on a fiberglass van roof. Just leveled up my.whole plan! Комментарий от : @ReeseDee |
You are SOOOOOO articulate 😍😍🥰🥰 Your VOICE = beyond "radio quality", and the CLARITY of your intonation and your pronounciation is . . . second to NONE 🤩🤩 You are FARRR clearer than News presenters and talk-show hosts but when it comes to the delievery of your message = that part was something of unbelievable quality 👌👌👌💥💥💥. I'm searching YouTube to see if it is possible to lay some sort of plastic rope in the inside keel of my canoe instead of fiberglass material. Комментарий от : @mrcleanisin |
Would you recommend using this technique for soft spots on a boat? What epoxy would I use and what cloth? Комментарий от : @jayvette75 |
Man, what a great video! I spend so much time hating on the scams on YouTube. This video is pure truth and beauty by comparison! Комментарий от : @akbarshoed |
Most informative video on fibreglassing I have ever seen. Well done. I just subscribed! Комментарий от : @Wolverine6617 |

good stuff thank you . Комментарий от : @madmanzila |
Incredible video! What cloth was used for this video? (weight/density/pattern?) what is the sweet spot for using it for building lightweight furniture for a boat? Комментарий от : @enjoyvride |
How did you cover that piece of foam that you used to demo with epoxy? Doesn't the chemical process/heat eat up the foam? Комментарий от : @AlwaysWorking2008 |
Very good.... I repair electronic devices in plastic cabinets or with injection molded chassis. Roughen surfaces, apply resin and then press various grades of fiberglass cloth into part break and brush out air bubbles as necessary. However, I saturate not with two-part resins but with UV cure resin. The repair is hard enough for service in just a minute or two. If I want to add another layer, I use your excellent advice to roughen the cured resin and wash before adding more resin, cloth and another round of UV light exposure. Комментарий от : @RadioHist |
What's a good supplier and what price range I can expect ? Комментарий от : @Anthony-lk5dm |
@TechIngredients I haven't been able to find an 'S-glass" that is stated to be "primarily based on Aluminum Oxide". All the ones I found only touted a higher silicon content. Some only mention Aluminum and Magnesium Oxide as being part of the composition. Комментарий от : @Dev-lc4cd |
LIKIE VERY MUCH. Комментарий от : @michaelmclaughlin5748 |
I've learned so much watching your videos. All good stuff. Комментарий от : @raceordie690 |
The way I prepare a fiberglass prepreg is that I use wax paper 📜 . I put the mixture on the waxy side , I put the mixture on one side of the fiberglass sheet then place it one the wet mixture after that , put on the mixture on top. Then use the bubble buster after the prepreg is place on what you're placing the fiberglass on. Once the fiberglass is tacky trim the fiberglass sheet , and brush or pore the mixture and even it out . Комментарий от : @LuisMedina-zd4ky |
I use a prepreg method and then use the tacky method to advance with less mess. Using the wax paper to make a prepreg sheet. Комментарий от : @LuisMedina-zd4ky |
Some good ideas! Комментарий от : @alienxyt |
Fantastic illustration!!! I am using this fiberglass method to provide additional structural rigidity for a "factory" glued butcher block piece of wood purchased at a "big box" store. The glued joints from the "factory" don't appear to be very strong, and the application of the piece of wood requires strength. Using on one side only, and should provide strength enough for this application. Great video, thank you!!! Комментарий от : @daveduerr9153 |
What epoxy do you use on your foam Комментарий от : @shanepatterson1368 |
gee whizz what a great tutorial thanks bud Комментарий от : @airshot5093 |

I made a small plywood table to be able to use my thickness planer as a jointer. Unfortunately I used 1/2 inch plywood, which turned out to be too flexible in use - but then I remembered this video, and volia! Problem solved. Thanks!! This has me wondering about another aspect of this process which may be very important to me - how much fire resistance does this impart to treated wood? Wildfire is an ever-present threat where I live. We've taken some steps to harden our home against wildfire, but there is an area along the entire roof-line of my house where embers could collect and ignite the roof! I've considered using flashing as a barrier over the existing wood or replacing it with sheet metal, but now I'm wondering if adding a layer of fiberglass would be an option. If nothing else, fiberglass would also clearly also impart water protection for the wood. Thank you for all your amazing content! Комментарий от : @WRHAP |
It would be very helpful to see how you might approach fibreglassing over 3D printed material such as PLA. Комментарий от : @andrewklug4845 |
Can you use filler (epoxy+microballoons) when the fabric is tacky to fill the voids and produce a more smooth surface that is easier to sand than epoxy and lower risk of sanding out fiberglass? Комментарий от : @malovanyy |
Omg you know the science and how to effectively use it with the fibreglass. I learned so much thank you so much!!! Комментарий от : @Lithail |
I need to talk to you. May I? Can I have your number please, sir! Комментарий от : @ecomarinebd |
I am repairing a few cracks in a fiberglass shower pan--each about an inch long. I widened the cracks to about 3mm so I could fill them with a bead of epoxy. Can someone recommend a way to reinforce the patch? Комментарий от : @timrob62 |

#1 all time new favorite channel. There are very few people in this world whom are as well rounded and well put together in so many ways as you are, sir. One ought to listen closely when a person of this caliber is speaking. To put it plainly, They just know what the fuck they're talking about. And here is an entire channel of it. I am pumped! Do you have any videos on vacuum bagging to consolidate sandwich composites and reduce the amount of unnecessary epoxy in the reinforcing cloth to reduce the finished weight? Комментарий от : @chrisdaniel1339 |
Do you have any videos explaining when to use epoxy Fibre glass abd when to use polyester Fibre glass? Комментарий от : @MilesCobbett |
I guess boats are OK..me I would try to use that stuff to but other stuff together...project box's or pc boards like you say..nice to have options however. Комментарий от : @craftymulligar |

I am building a teardrop trailer and an trying to decide on a good waterproofing protective outer skin. The teardrop sheathing is 5/32" okoume plywood on top. Do you think a single layer fiberglass would be a good option for this build? I would likely paint over the fiberglass to finish it. Комментарий от : @affidavit4 |
Anybody know how this effects impact resistance Комментарий от : @qwertyqwerty9587 |
Michael Link again. As I previously commented on another of your videos, I built a 4 place fiberglass/epoxy aircraft using (Burt) Rutan Long EZ building techniques. So, here are a couple of tips that I learned from the very extensive building/teaching plans that apply to this installment of your video series: 1. If bidirectional fiberglass cloth, (50/50 weave), is cut on a 45 degree bias, the cloth will drape over edges and irregular shapes much more easily. This wastes glass, but is worth the workability gains. 2. The most efficient and lightest way to fill in the weave pattern of a layup is to produce a thickened stucco like paste made from epoxy resin and glass microballoons. Mix by eyeball and experience to a consistency that will be relatively easy to spread, but not so wet as to be hard to sand after curing. I was able to create a surface smooth enough that, when painted, would allow laminar flow over the entire aircraft. (That was a primary reason that the plane could fly at around 220 MPH with a 180 HP engine.) Комментарий от : @michaellink6960 |
3:40 . . . I guess you just didn't get around to it. Комментарий от : @torchofkck4989 |
Really interesting video, was you working with polyester resin or epoxy resin here? Thanks Комментарий от : @welshnutterz |
Dude's got a super low-key Bill Nye vibe... I dig it. Subbed. Комментарий от : @nukima11 |
Hi!!! Thanks fot the great video!!! What would you your choice of fiberglass for reinforcing a boat swimming platform? Would you doit with with what kind of resin?? Комментарий от : @luisgcasiquet |
enable subtitlessss Комментарий от : @thecreator5143 |
Maybe he is used to that fiber glass I wouldn't touch that with bare hands cos glass specules will enter your skin and remain there Комментарий от : @arjunjassal929 |

Just happened upon this video and the timing could not be better, as I have a little fiberglass work to do soon. Комментарий от : @Edgy01 |
Great videos, glad I found your channel. Did you ever make the video about soft body armor ? Thanks Комментарий от : @JoseyOaks |
I notice you have the epoxy and fiberglass directly on the polystyrene. This would be perfect for a project I'm working on. What epoxy did you use to achieve this? I know traditional fiberglass epoxies will eat the foam. Комментарий от : @longwing |
Ideal material for nerds who live in a dream world Комментарий от : @levettp |
One should always use a wetting agent for surface pre-treatment. Acetone mixed with a very small amount of resin without hardener is a very good pre-treatment for substrates. It makes wetup much easier. Комментарий от : @dieselphiend |
It is much cheaper & easier to start with polyester resin, not as strong though. Also the cloth does not have to be glass if you are using epoxy organic materials can also be used like flax, hemp, bamboo, etc. There is a product you can put on the surface before cure of epoxy so you can peel the amine layer off with it once dry. Комментарий от : @calthorp |
Always amazing, I go to some of your older videos of topics that don't seem too interesting or useful at a time and anyway I 100% of the time learn something useful and incredibly interesting. Not to mention the flow of ideas I get from watching your videos. You could live in a desert and your videos on boat building would still be useful. I'm very much thinking now of making stronger, more durable props for cosplay etc. that would survive swinging while looking cool and weighing not much. Комментарий от : @ares395 |
Did you ever make the video on flexible body armor? Комментарий от : @Dmitri_Schrama |
I thought you would go to vacuum infusion. It save so much time waste material and nasty working applying epoxy by hand. Комментарий от : @alexforget |
good one Комментарий от : @clickbaitnumberone1403 |
Also, baby powder on your skin and sleeves seams, and neck seams, lessens itching drastically when laying up large areas or sanding. Rubbing dish washing liquid with a tiny bit of water, and letting it dry, before starting with the resin or mat also works. And you clean up easily. Try "scrunching up" heavy weave or chop-strand before applying to the resin, it will lay around corners and in valleys better! Комментарий от : @julianjennings4638 |
Red ( infrared) 100watt heating lamp. The 'long wave' light heats the panel from inside out. + - 50~60 cm away does the same thing as the heating pads. It is a bit slower. Комментарий от : @julianjennings4638 |
This was such an excellent video Комментарий от : @Unistarguy |
what kind of non-toxic epoxy are you using? Комментарий от : @mikkelpandrup |
Great, now I wanna go build a boat lol Комментарий от : @Josh-gi8ht |
Like the idea of this technology but question if these components have the characteristics to be recycled? Are we just creating more landfill? Комментарий от : @dc-wp8oc |
I was just getting annoyed with you laying it up the wrong way when you usd it as an example of how not to!!! Thanks. Комментарий от : @petegarnett7731 |
As a former surfer fixing dings with fiberglass and epoxy, I understand your points. Fantastic, thank you. My DIY camper trailer I’m working on will benefit. Комментарий от : @sholland42 |

Love your videos! The speakers were awesome! One question, Fiberglass resin destroys polystyrene how did you not destroy the foam board? Комментарий от : @Heysarge99 |
Wow man you are great at teaching excellent speaker. Комментарий от : @Tman-ww2zm |
Dude, you are an instruction marvel. Ty Комментарий от : @Brian-os9qj |

Thank you for the video even with all the technical words I understood it lol It was a great instruction on fiberglass procedures. Best one I have seen. Комментарий от : @TM-we6eg |
Tons of knowledge in this video. Thank you! Комментарий от : @PablOFW |
He specfically discounted the effect of temperature druring curing. That becomes your "glass transition" temp. Above that cure temp, the strength of fiberglass drops off fast. He's a garage hacker and didn't do anything but wet up a piece of fiberglass. Комментарий от : @donaldblankenship8057 |
