Excellent video. I have an '81 Hobie 16 Tequila Sunrise. Fast. At least enough for a 78 yr old. I also use a little 30 yr old,18 ft lb Minn Koda that moves this 315 lb boat nicely. That thing oughta COOK! Keep up the good work. I'll be watching for your vids. Can't wait to see it in action. That crossbeam forward, I presume, was added for future sail rig.

Did anybody catch his exact fiberglassing schedule?
It looks like darken wood, and one layer 6oz S glass then paint as mentioned. Is it just one layer of glass? Is it inside and outside like that? Or just glass the outside and epoxy the inside to water proof it? Was it Raka or West Marine?

I'm excited to continue to do a lot of these projects (often scaled down) with students!

1) Need to see the swamp motor test. What speeds did you get?

2) Need to finish the hydro foil. 5 MPH just aint gonna cut it. That projected 18 MPH is more like it. Not to mention foils are ... cool!

3) The goal being a modular design, are the trolling motors still viable after you put the aluminum mounting blocks for the rudders on the stern(s)?

4) Starting at 37:30 you have lapped plywood that you ground down the edges to make a curve. What is that for?

So I haven't been able to find you online for the last few weeks, I told you back then I couldn't afford to subscribe & you told me it didn't cost😅 but every time my phone screen turns off I lose your video 😢& I don't know how to get back to it, your catermaran video is the 3rd video I have seen right through & you are the 1st person other than myself that knows how to explain things to the layman but still uses the proper engineering terms. I have taught more than a few apprentices in my time and explaining things simply to people is a rare gift, most scientists use big words to make it harder to understand, U explain things so close to my understanding that you make my life simpler with your words, don't know how to explain it, but I have a sigh of relief every time my suspicions are confirmed and a whole heap of knowledge is bent around to line up with what I suspected, this might sound like shit but I would love to be able to talk with you in person, but what I really wanted to say is that I 'get' your method of teaching, you remind me of myself & I don't know of anyone else that thinks this much like me😅

WTF?? You built the model: Cool! You explained the hydrodynamics of hull design: Cool! You kind of taught us how to build a boat: Cool! You even got it down to the water and showed us how to assemble it, more-or-less. Cool!
BUT YOU NEVER PUT IT IN THE WATER!?!
I feel like I used to when I'd get lured into a long chain of clickbait items, but never to the thing which first got my attention.
Still, I don't regret the use of my time (much), but I can't imagine a logical reason you didn't include the maiden voyage.

does the thick end go forward or backward? a shark is thick in the front and a knife is thick in the back, and i would imagine the knife whould cut through water better. even at the same size.

This looks like an amazing retirement project for me! Im years away yet but excited for it. Im thinking some spray foam in the hull might help for extra buoyancy without adding much extra weight. A full size boat like this with a small kicker motor would be super cool! A head turner for sure. I’d love to cruise around in comfort and style on one of these. Maybe have a nice comfy captains chair, rod holders, cooler and live well. The front and rear sharp corner of the pontoons could use some aluminum angle to help with strength.

I imagine now this video is old you might no longer view comments. I wonder however as you had mentioned I believe that it is possible that each hull can move slightly up/down without forcing the other hull to do exactly the same {this was with the binding down design} if having long leaf springs fixed on the top of posts mounted in the two hulls if that would enhance the idea of the two hulls being able to move up/down at the front/rear without forcing the other to do so to the same extent; with the leaf springs permitting limited twist which you could tailor to allow more or less by the strength of or number of springs in the set. Volkswagen used multi flat springs in their front suspension but I am thinking about wider springs like used on trucks but longer and flat. There is a risk they could allow the hulls to flex in and out but I think that could be kept to a minimum or even may be prevented by the diagonal cables bracing. You could then mount the leaf springs on top of square posts much like the center area of leaf springs has the differential mounted. You bent tubing does not permit this separate flexing and maybe you do not want it; but it seems a way to have it if wanted.

It'S time to update "The Catamaran" and build a YACHT using the blades recycled from WIND TURBINES!!!. Take the PowerWall Tesla batteries and an axial flux electric motor coupled with Sparrel prop encapsulate the blade AKA "powerplant" with urethane foam plus solar panels to generate electricity . In short let's build an "ARK " to escape TODAY"S CRAZY WORLD!!!!
